J Cole: Shepherds Bush Empire, 15 November 2011

On Tuesday, 15 November, The Urbanite got a chance to see a legend in the making as J Cole returned to these shores for his first headline UK tour.  The night was bound to be a big night, as the rapper's stature has grown massively since he first came here (supporting Drake) with the release of Friday Night Lights (the hottest mixtape of last year) and Cole World: The Sideline Story (the hottest studio album of the year).

The queue for the venue was, as expected, packed out as the rapper sold out all his UK dates.  With our standing tickets, The Urbanite was located near enough to the front but had to put up with shockingly bad support acts in Gfrsh and JDotR (Never heard of him, yeah, neither have I), though it was good to see Sincere on stage (about time he blows).

Cole himself was on fire, beginning the night with a mix if tracks from Friday Night Lights and Cole World.  It was surprising to see the crowd, which was a mix of young teeny boppers and older hip hops heads, know the words to nearly every single song that Cole performed and it is clear to see that Cole has learnt a lot from Drake in how to start and end performances - ending the show with the all too typical "hey, I see you with the white shirt on" "Shout out to the girl with her hand up" etc etc.

See some of the videos from the show below: Excuse the sound, that's what happens when your stuck next to the speakers all night!  Enjoy, Cole World!

"Daddy's Little Girl" + "Lost Ones"

"Mr Nice Watch"

"Lights Please" + "In the Morning"

"Can't Get Enough"
